EU4Health Programme

Health is an investment and, with a €5.3 billion budget during the 2021-27 period, the EU4Health programme is an unparalleled EU financial support in the health area. EU4Health is a clear message that public health is a priority for the EU and it is one of the main instruments to pave the way to a European Health Union.

Established by Regulation (EU) 2021/522, EU4Health brings an EU added value and complements the policies of the Member States to pursue four general objective representing the ambitions of the programme and ten specific objectives representing the areas of intervention: Improve and foster health, Protect people, Access to medicinal products, medical devices and crisis-relevant products and Strengthen health systems.

The BfArM is engaged in three projects in different roles, helping to achieve the objectives of the EU4Health programme. More information can be found under the respective project name.

Joint Action IncreaseNETIncreaseNET

The aim of the joint action is to strengthen capacity and competence building of European national medicines agencies in the field of medicines assessment, thereby ensuring better access to innovative, high-quality, effective and safe medicines for patients. BfArM is leading Work Package 6, which aims to implement an on-the-job learning and –coaching program for NCA assessors of centralised procedures.

The Joint Action on Shortages with its acronym CHESSMEN aims to harmonise the existing systems and support Member States in their activities to address medicines shortages. BfArM is leading the Working Package 7 - Digital Information Exchange for Monitoring and reporting medicine shortages.

HDP4Germany

The EU-funded project "Improving HealthData@EU-preparedness for Germany" (HDP4Germany) aims to establish Germany's national Health Data Access Body (HDAB), aligning it with the future European Health Data Space (EHDS) infrastructure. It focuses on building technical and organizational capacities, to facilitate secondary use of health data for research and development.
