ICD-9 and more previous revisions of ICD

BfArM also provides previous versions in file form. ICD-9 and also ICD-8 are available in the versions for the Federal Republic of Germany and the German Democratic Republic. ICD-7 and ICD-6 are available in the version for the Federal Republic of Germany.  Please consult the version history for periods of validity and application of the various revisions in the Federal Republic of Germany and the former German Democratic Republic.

DDR-Verzeichnis

Instead of the ICD-6 and ICD-7, the "Verzeichnis der Krankheiten und Todesursachen für Zwecke der Medizinalstatistik" (DDR-Verzeichnis) was used in the GDR.

With this GDR directory and the GDR-specific versions of the ICD, you can easily decode key numbers such as those listed on the social insurance cards of the former GDR.

ICD-9

ICD-9 was used in the Federal Republic of Germany and the former German Democratic Republic in their own respective editions from 1979 for the encoding of causes of death and later also for the encoding of morbidity, until they were replaced by ICD-10.

ICD-8

ICD-8 was used in the Federal Republic of Germany and the former German Democratic Republic from 1968 to 1978 as the basis for mortality statistics. In the former German Democratic Republic, it also served as the basis for morbidity encoding.

ICD-7

ICD-7 was used in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1958 to 1967. There are only small differences to ICD-6.

ICD-6

ICD-6 in German language was used in the Federal Republic of Germany from 1952 to 1957 as the basis for mortality statistics.

The ICD-6 is the first revision to include diseases and injuries in addition to causes of death. The ICD-6 is available for download with Vol. 1-3: International and German Tabular List and Alphabetical Index.

ICD-5

1938 the Fifth ILCD Revision Conference approved three lists: a detailed list of 200 titles, an intermediate list of 87 titles and an abridged list of 44 titles as ICD-5. In its resolution the conference stressed the importance of a classification of diseases in line with the list of causes of death and recommended that an international list of diseases should be drafted. This was realized and adopted as ICD-6 in 1948.
