The Iris software has been used for ICD-10 mortality coding for more than 20 years. Now, Iris is also available for ICD-11 mortality coding.
The new version 6.1.0.9 of Iris is intended to be used for routine coding of statistics. Previously released test version have been tested thoroughly and detected errors have been corrected.
This version includes updates and user feedback. The technical features of version 6.1 based in principle on version 5, with some modification for ICD-11. Iris version 6 includes also the coding kernel MUSE (Multicausal and Unicausal Selection Engine). MUSE is a rule-based software tool which processes pre-coded death certificates in accordance with the guidelines of ICD-11.
Not all items on the multiple cause rules could be solved yet, because a few issues are under discussion in the Mortality Reference Group of the WHO-FIC Network. Some other items can be solved once accepted updates for ICD-11 versions of 2026 or 2027 will become valid.
You will find more information in the release notes and Iris manual.
