National Edition / National Extension

National Extensions support the publication of country-specific SNOMED CT content. This includes, among other things:

  • translations into German
  • SNOMED CT concepts that are specific to Germany
  • mappings commonly used in Germany with SNOMED CT as the source or target coding system
  • subsets used in Germany

A National Edition of SNOMED CT consists of the International Edition and the National Extension.

The National Edition is usually produced by the National Release Center (in this case BfArM) and is published on its MLDS pages (https://mlds.ihtsdotools.org/#/landing). In general, an affiliate license is required in order to download a SNOMED CT release, which you can also apply once for your organization via MLDS and which is free of charge. If necessary, please contact the license holder in your organization.

The National Edition is published in RF2 format.
