Tasks

To advise on the use and further development of SNOMED CT within the framework of Section 355 (7) of the Fifth Social Code (SGB V), the Federal Ministry of Health (BMG) established a working group at the Board of Trustees for Questions of Classification in Health Care (KKG) in 2021, in which the relevant professional groups are represented. The AG SNOMED CT advises the BMG and the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (BfArM), which is subordinate to the BMG, on the formulation, maintenance and further development of SNOMED CT for the German healthcare system. This includes in particular:

• The coordination of changes resulting from national and international requirements,
• contributions to the translation of SNOMED CT into German,
• the development of a National Extension of SNOMED CT,
• the development of user manuals for SNOMED CT, and
• the development of a German position on the further development and application of SNOMED CT for European and international committees.

The BfArM is the office for the administrative preparation and execution of the meetings of the AG SNOMED CT of the KKG.

Members

The following organisations belong to the AG SNOMED CT of the KKG as voting members:

• German Medical Association (BÄK),
• National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians (KBV),
• Association of the Scientific Medical Societies (AWMF),
• National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Funds (GKV-Spitzenverband) and the Private Health Insurance Association (PKV-Verband),
• the accident insurance institutions,
• German Pension Insurance Association (DRV Bund),
• German Hospital Federation (DKG).

Due to the special issues involved, the following organisations belong to the AG SNOMED CT of the KKG as permanent guests:

• Institute for the Hospital Remuneration System (InEK),
• Institute for Quality Assurance and Transparency in Health Care (IQTIG),
• National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists (KZBV),
• German Dental Association (BZÄK),
• Federal Chamber of Psychotherapists (BPtK),
• representatives of the associations of care facility operators at the federal level and the associations of the care professions at the federal level,
• Federal Union of German Associations of Pharmacists (ABDA),
• gematik GmbH
• German Association of Health IT Vendors (bvitg),
• Robert Koch Institute (RKI),
• Paul-Ehrlich-Institut (PEI),
• umbrella organisation for IT standards in healthcare (SITiG),
• other experts to be consulted on a case-by-case basis as proposed by the AG SNOMED CT.

Documents for the meetings

The meetings of the AG SNOMED CT of the KKG take place at least once a year.
