Federal Opium Agency
Ensuring supply. Preventing abuse.
Tasks
The Federal Opium Agency monitors the legal traffic in narcotics. Narcotics are all those substances that are subject to the Narcotics Act. These include substances used in medicine, such as strong painkillers, as well as substances that are abused illegally.
What these substances have in common is that they can become addictive and damage health if misused or abused. For this reason, the legal traffic in narcotics - from the import of raw materials for production to the delivery of narcotic medicines to pharmacies - is monitored by the Federal Opium Agency.
