BfArM meets Europe: Shaping the EHDS

Building Bridges into the European Health Data Space (EHDS)
How can Germany connect more effectively to the European Health Data Space? What are the lessons learned from other EU Member States? And how can national actors, infrastructures, and initiatives contribute to shaping a stronnitiatives contribute to shaping a strong, secure, and interoperable European ecosystem for secondary health data use?g, secure, and interoperable European ecosystem for secondary health data use?
These questions will take centre stage at the upcoming Health Data Event at the BfArM in Bonn. Over the course of two days, we will explore the evolving European health data landscape – with a particular focus on Germany’s role within it.
Day 1 (24 November): Germany in the European Context – Building Bridges into the EHDS
The first day is open to all interested parties, with a particular focus on national stakeholders in health research, data governance, public health, digital health, and healthcare policy. Participants will gain insights into:
- The current state of EHDS implementation at EU level
- Lessons from successful European infrastructures and use cases
- Ongoing German and European initiatives such as DACO, the Health Data Lab (FDZ Gesundheit), cancer registries, and EU projects (HDP4Germany, QUANTUM, TEHDAS2)
- The challenges and opportunities for Germany as a data location in Europe
The programme includes keynote presentations by e.g. Mario Jendrossek from Health Data Hub or Elina Drakvik from Sitra, best practice talks, interactive networking formats, and a high-level panel discussion with participants from all over the EU.
Day 2 (25 November): HDAB Day – Strengthening Exchange Among Health Data Access Bodies
The second day is reserved exclusively for representatives of Health Data Access Bodies (HDABs) and aims to strengthen collaboration and peer learning within the emerging EHDS infrastructure.
Through thematic roundtables, breakout sessions, and exchange formats, HDABs will have the opportunity to:
- Share experiences, ideas, and current challenges
- Align on processes, standards, and best practices
- Explore opportunities for future collaboration and coordination
Topics of conversation for the HDABs will include: Metadata, Secure Processing Environments, Data Access and Application Management and Communications.

Participation on Day 2 is reserved for receivers of a Direct Grant to build an HDAB.
Social Event
To foster networking and round off your visit to Bonn, we will have a social dinner on the evening of 24th November. Further details will follow.
